Hypnobirthing in Cambridge
Natural birth at home or in Hospital using hypnosis
Giving birth should be a joyful, normal experience; a wonderful journey that a woman takes and the process of giving birth naturally. Helping your child into the world - should be seen as the very first creative act that a mother and child embark on together. Sadly, many women in the western world believe that giving birth naturally is going to be a painful and difficult experience and
so fear they will not be able to deal with the pain and will feel out of control during the birth of their baby.
Giving birth naturally using hypnosis
By using hypnosis before and during the birth experience, these negative beliefs can be overcome leaving the mother confident and empowered to give birth naturally, with little discomfort, and with a real sense of achievement.
Self-hypnosis relaxes you and controls pain during child birth
There are three sessions in the hypnobirthing programme where relaxation techniques, self-hypnosis and pain control techniques are taught. Hypnosis is a natural way of controlling and managing pain during operations. It has also been found that after operations the recovery times of patients who has used hypnosis was dramatically reduced as opposed to those who used conventional anesthetics.

The three sessions are also provided on CD disks for the mother to use at home. The more frequently the relaxation and pre-birthing disks are played, the more effective the treatment. In addition, there is a compact double CD set for during the birthing process.
Benefits of hypnobirthing
Less medication
Because hypnosis produces physical and mental calmness and relaxation, the need for analgesics is greatly reduced. It is often the case that the sensations felt are movement and pressure and little (if any) painkillers are required. Having said this, though, each person and birthing is different and the use of hypnosis should be viewed as complementary to, and not instead of, medical advice and interventions
Reduced time in labour
It is well-established that hypnosis reduces the time in labour by approximately 2 hours in the multip and possibly 3 and 4 hours in primip.
Increased energy
Many pregnant women report feeling tired before giving birth as sleeping and moving around becomes more difficult. Listening to the CD disks enables the mother to rest as hypnosis is excellent at inducing deep relaxation and sleep. Additionally, as a result of there being less time in labour and greatly reduced discomfort during labour, the birth mother feels much more in control of herself physically and mentally. This means her energy levels are maintained and most women feel much less exhausted by the experience and recover much more quickly.
Enhanced body functioning
During hypnosis there is an increase in the production of lymphocytes (the body’s healing cells), and blood pressure and heart rate are automatically reduced while blood flow to the uterus is increased. This means the body is in its optimum state for giving birth!
Better mother & baby bonding
It has been shown that, not only does the mother feel calmer and more relaxed during and after birth, but the baby is likely to cry less, sleep and feed better and is generally calmer, though also alert.

Fathers and child birth
Fathers may want to be present at the birth of their child but may feel anxious and apprehensive
backing out at the last minute.
Chris had fainted when his first wife had to have a caesarean birth and missed the whole birth. When he realised their second baby was going to be delivered by C-section also, he became very anxious as he wanted to support his wife during the birth. Chris had just two sessions with Elaine and this was his response
"R was born on Tuesday morning at 6.35 and I was present throughout the whole procedure. Nothing will ever equal the feeling I had when I held my baby for the first time. It was the most wonderful moment in my life. Thank you so much Elaine for making it possible"
